Has time felt strange for anyone else this year? While for many of us, time froze in March, 2020 somehow has zipped right on by. And without much warning, fall has swooped in, bringing with it hurricanes, tropical storms and for some, fires. And as a homeowner, you know that season changes mean it’s maintenance time. Spring and Winter often get the most attention when it comes to property maintenance. But fall property maintenance is just as important. So, what are some things you should do as fall makes its entrance?
A homeowner’s guide to fall property maintenance
As the weather cools, leaves threaten to fall and daylight fades, there are quite a few things that you’ll want to do to prepare your property. Colder weather can wreak havoc on fragile or cracking cement and siding. Falling leaves can clog even the cleanest of gutters which can result in foundation issues when it rains. Severe weather and heavy snow can bring down dead or dying limbs which can damage your property.
Your fall property maintenance checklist:
- Clean or possibly replace your gutters
- Check for drafts
- Drain your outdoor faucets
- Store your outdoor furniture
- Fix cracks in your driveway and sidewalks
- Change your air filters
- Fertilize your lawn
- Change important batteries such as smoke detectors
- Check outdoor lighting
- Take care of any problem trees.
- Stay on top of leaf fall by raking and blowing
Give yourself peace of mind
While it’s never fun to do the prep work, going into the season with some peace of mind is priceless. Confidently enjoy bonfires, trick or treating and fall festivities by crossing these items off your fall property maintenance checklist!
