Meridian DesignBuild, Ltd. was established in 2006 when Founder & President, Joe Balich, brought his passion for building to Charlotte, NC. He saw the need for a construction company that paired high-quality construction with genuine client care.

Over the years, Meridian has continued to serve families across the greater Charlotte area with the same commitment to integrity, quality, and thoughtful design. Every project reflects our belief that a home can be renewed with care, intention, and craftsmanship that stands the test of time.

Meet the Founder

Joe Balich — Founder & President

Joe began his career as a carpenter, spending his early years working in Boston’s historic renovation community — experience that shaped his attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and deep respect for craftsmanship. He obtained his first contractor’s license in Massachusetts in 1978, and in 1990 he and his family relocated to Charlotte. He became a licensed General Contractor in North Carolina in 1992 and in South Carolina in 1994, carrying that foundation into every project he leads today.

In 1992, Joe founded and operated a Charlotte-based remodeling company, growing the business to a team of 15 employees within eight years. In 2001, he returned briefly to New England to pursue a family business opportunity. Within a year, Joe and his wife recognized Charlotte as home and made the decision to return permanently.

In 2006, Joe launched Meridian DesignBuild Ltd., guided by a clear mission: not to be the largest remodeling company in the greater Charlotte area, but to be one of the best. Today, Meridian continues to build its reputation on craftsmanship, integrity, and long-standing client relationships rooted in trust.

Joe has served as President of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) Charlotte Chapter and has also served at the national level as Co-Chair of By-Laws and Ethics—reflecting his long-standing commitment to professionalism and integrity in the building industry.

Known for steady leadership and practical decision-making, Joe enjoys collaborating with homeowners to create spaces that function beautifully and stand the test of time. Clients describe him as knowledgeable, relatable, and deeply committed to doing things the right way — the first time.

Outside of work, Joe and his wife, Megan, have five children and are active in their local church and community.
